Encoding is a crucial process that enables users to convert videos into various resolutions, ensuring optimal compatibility with diverse end-user devices. Our intelligent player automatically selects the most suitable resolution for playback, significantly reducing buffering on unstable or poor network connections.

Introducing Basic and Advanced Encoding within the Video Manager. Basic Encoding offers a selection of resolutions with pre-configured and adjustable bitrates and provides users with powerful and, most of all, free transcoding of their videos. Advanced Encoding, on the other hand, unlocks a suite of detailed configuration options for greater control over the encoding process.

This guide outlines the configuration settings available in both Basic and Advanced Encoding modes within the Video Manager, and helps you configure them for the best results.

Available Resolutions

Configures the range of resolutions to which uploaded videos will be transcoded. Each selected resolution allows viewers to switch playback to that specific quality. Offering a broad spectrum of resolutions enhances the viewer experience by accommodating various internet speeds and device capabilities. Be mindful that each additional resolution increases storage requirements for the transcoded video files.

Editable Resolutions Bitrates

Adjust the bitrate for each resolution to which videos are transcoded. Each resolution is initially set with a default bitrate that balances picture quality with bandwidth efficiency. You can customize these bitrates by selecting the bitrate value in the Enabled Resolutions list, allowing for precise control over the encoding quality and bandwidth usage.

Unlock Advance Encoding

Advanced Encoding in the Video Manager provides users with a deeper level of control over the video encoding process, allowing for fine-tuned customization to achieve optimal video quality and performance. Here’s a concise breakdown of the settings:

Video Settings

  • Container Format: MP4, WebM, HLS, HLS-ACS
  • Video Codec: H.264, H.265, VP9
  • Number of Passes: One Pass (fast) or Two-Pass (high quality)
  • Profile: Disabled, Baseline, Main, High
  • Level: 3.0 to 4.2 (determines bitrate/resolution limits)
  • Frame Rate (FPS): As Source, 24-60 FPS
  • GOP (Group of Pictures): 2x to 12x (affects compression/seek performance)
  • Preset: Superfast, Veryfast, Faster, Fast (speed vs. quality trade-off)
  • Video Upscaling: Allow or Disallow

Audio Settings

  • Audio Codec: LC-AAC, MP3, Opus
  • Channels: As Source, Stereo, Mono
  • Audio Bitrate: As Source or Custom (e.g., 128 kbps)
  • Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz
